Description: Based on classes taught by Swami Dayananda Saraswati. In the words of Swamiji from his foreword to the book, ‘The 13th chapter of the Gita can be looked upon as a complete book of Vedanta. It presents not only the vision of the Maha-vakya ‘That you are’ burt also all the necessary values and attitudes that make an individual qualified to receive and live the knowledge of oneness. It also presents the vision of Isvara very well.’ This book is a further installment of a translation of selected chapters of the Bhagavad-Gita. The goal as stated by the author, Peter Strauss, is to unlock a deeper meaning of each verse than what is usually encountered with the strict word meanings. In attempting to do this, Peter has incorporated the Bhasya of Sankaracharya into his translations. Chapter 13 begins the last third of the Bhagavad-Gita. These last six chapters as a whole deal essentially with the identity of atman and Brahman or jiva and Isvara. It fully unfolds the terms ‘Purusha & Prakriti as well as the relevance of Jnanam or knowledge both in the area of qualifications of the student and in his/her absolute understanding of the truth of the Self. Beautiful color photos are woven in and throughout the verse meanings, taken by both Peter and his wife, Cheryl. These photos add both inspiration and awe to the to unlimited depths found in the words of the teaching of the Bhagavad-Gita.
